Welcome to the Australian Trainers’ Association (ATA)The Australian Trainers' Association (ATA) is a national organisation recognised as the principal representative of Horse Trainers' in Australia.
Established in 1967, the ATA is widely represented with Branches in all Australian States and is underpinned by the National Federal Branch.
Importantly the valued support through voluntary Membership provides a well balanced cross section of license holders ranging from Professional Trainers', Owner Trainers, Picnic and Seasonal Permit holders.
The ATA as the Employers representative is party with the Australian Workers Union (AWU), the Employees representative, to the Federal Horse and Greyhound Training Award 2010 (HGTA). The terms of the HGTA are the basis of ongoing consultation between the ATA and the AWU in negotiating Employment conditions and Wage Rates. The HGTA has catered for and developed with the changing landscape of the Horse Training Industry providing for flexibility that is required for various hours of work and duties over 7 days a week.
Representation for Trainers' through a united voice that is carried by an independent professional organisation is another core ATA function when consulting with or submissions to racing's governing authorities.
ATA Mission Statement - To Support, Promote and Protect the Interests of Horse Trainers and the Training Profession as a whole.
The ATA has members in every State in Australia and has State branches in Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia.

The drive to establish this Trust was twofold.
Firstly, the ATA recognized only too well, and often first hand, the toll this profession could take on trainers. Serious illness and injury was a common experience, with the outcome for many stress, anxiety, family breakdown and financial hardship, or worse, a permanent disability from injury or a lingering illness like depression.
Secondly, there did not exist a single, nationwide industry sponsored fund with the ability to assist Trainers financially, where there was a pressing need to do so.
Workcover Support ServicesThe Australian Trainers’ Association will oversee delivery of Workcover Support Services (WSS) to licensed trainers in Victoria, commencing on 1 February 2024.
The aim of the WSS is to provide licensed Victorian trainers with tools and advisory support to help each better manage their employment injury risks and associated Workcover insurance costs.
The WSS team will be made up of experts in their respective fields and will be led by the ATA and their lead consultant, Garry Cuddy. The expectation is that over a 2-3 year term, utilising the WSS will lead to a significant reduction in the number of incidents (and in particular, serious incidents) which in turn, will reduce the financial and personal impost businesses typically experience from their workplace injuries.
