Workcover Support Services

Since 1 February 2024, the Australian Trainers’ Association (ATA) has overseen the delivery of Workcover Support Services (WSS) for all licensed trainers in Victoria.
WSS is designed to equip trainers with practical tools, expert guidance, and strategic support to better manage workplace injury risks and control associated WorkCover insurance costs. The program is delivered by a specialist team led by the ATA and its lead consultant, Garry Cuddy of 16 Star Consultants.
Over a 3-to-5-year period, the WSS is expected to drive a meaningful reduction in workplace incidents—particularly serious injuries—ultimately easing both the financial pressures and operational challenges that arise from workplace harm. When an incident does occur, the WSS team is your first point of contact, providing immediate guidance to support effective claims management and help injured workers return to work as safely and efficiently as possible. While not all injuries can be prevented, the WSS ensures employers and employees receive the right support at the right time, strengthening outcomes across the entire return-to-work process.
Supporting Victorian trainers with expert risk management and claims strategies that reduce injury costs and protect racing businesses.
Our approach is proactive, precise, and built on deep industry knowledge. From stable safety to WorkCover claims, we help trainers stay focused on performance, not paperwork.

Our education stream is designed to build awareness, capability, and confidence across Victorian stables. We have developed comprehensive support documentation and are engaging directly with trainers and their administrative teams through stable visits and in-person discussions. To further strengthen connection and community, we host regular webinars that provide clear guidance, practical insights, and updates on the WSS program and legislative changes.
Our goal is simple: ensure trainers and their support staff understand who we are, how the program works, and the value it brings to their operations. By equipping stables with the right information and resources—and by encouraging active participation from all team members—we can deliver stronger, more consistent support across the industry.
